With campaigns like ‘Stop Destroying My Bingo’ and impassioned pleas to government to alleviate the suffering of the UK’s land bingo halls from the ravages of a smoking ban and a double taxation, you might be tempted to think that the Bingo Association believes something is amiss in the land bingo industry.
You might even be persuaded that the industry was going through challenging times with all the reports of land bingo job layoffs and poor profits being reported by some of the bigger land bingo operators in the UK.
So when the National Lottery decided to promote its National Lottery Bingo Scratchcard game by showing an old woman riding her scooter past a closed and somewhat forlorn-looking bingo hall only to be transported to an exotic beach bristling with bling because she wins the scratchcard game, you might think this accurately reflects the Bingo Association’s view of the trouble they see their industry in?
Not so! Having rapidly lost their sense of humour due to declining bingo hall membership numbers and land bingo halls closing at unprecedented rates, the Bingo Association claims the advert “unfairly denigrated bingo halls and implied that bingo clubs were closed and that the industry was dying.”
Anybody see the irony here?
The National Lottery ad has now been pulled and the Bingo Association can safely go back to decrying the unfair demise of its industry, having won this important victory.
Meanwhile, online bingo games continue to thrive and the numbers people who play bingo online and belong to online bingo halls continues to grow via the influx of former land bingo players looking for a better alternative.

Charity and bingo have a wonderful history of going together and the online bingo world has definitely taken up the bingo tradition of giving to those in need with a number of online bingo games charity events.
The latest effort comes from Gala Bingo, one of the big names in both land bingo and bingo online, which has taken up the challenge of fund raising for the Sue Ryder Care charity, an organization that helps those with some of the more terrible illnesses that stalk our society.
If you get the chance, try visiting Gala Bingo to support this fundraiser, if only to give something to those in need. It’s good to see one of online bingo’s leading brands take the lead in such a worthy cause.

US Democratic presidential hopeful Barack Obama likes the occasional game of low stakes poker – his Republican rival John McCain prefers the excitement of the craps table, supposedly reveling in the excitement of luck’s capricious nature in determining a win or a lose (I bet he can’t wait to get his finger on the button).
John Witherspoon, US presidential no-hoper (they won’t let me run because I’m British – go figure!), likes the friendly excitement of a good online bingo game and thinks future US Presidents could learn a thing or two from this form of gaming (Scary – this US presidential thing has got me talking in the third person).
When you play bingo online, it’s a social thing. People who play online bingo develop excellent social skills, something that seems very absent from recent US administrations. I somehow doubt either US presidential candidate will consider playing online bingo, but then, it would be illegal for UK online bingo halls to allow either candidate to play bingo online here thanks to UIGEA.
So much for the ‘special relationship’.

Last week it was a DVD player that you could win playing online bingo at We Luv Bingo – this week they have a Zanussi fridge freezer as part of their Friday online bingo games offering. Just think of all the nice, cool snacks you could keep in there for when you take a break from playing bingo online!
I think We Luv Bingo have got their finger on the pulse here as we bingo our way through another hot summer. While the free online bingo action might be hot, keeping things cool with this idea for a prize is pretty smart thinking.
All you have to do is bingo on the special fridge freezer pattern this Friday at 9.15pm, and you (I) could be the proud owner of this excellent prize as well as whatever the game’s jackpot is!
It’s a no brainer! Make sure you’re there for this great bingo game for your chance to win this brilliant prize!

The famous Hampton Court Palace Flower Show is about to become a part of the online bingo community thanks to an interesting promotion by online bingo hall Crown Bingo.
In a statement from Crown Bingo.com we learn:
“In honour of this fantastic display of horticulture, we are giving you the chance to win a bouquet of flowers for every day the show is on (the 8th to the 13th July).
“To win a beautiful summer flower arrangement, all you have to do is buy the most cards in room 2 throughout the day. You do not need to do anything else, just sit back, play and you could win yourself a fantastic bunch of flowers!”
This flower show is part of the legacy left by Henry VIII, who never had the chance to play online bingo, who built one of the finest gardens in the world at Hampton Court Palace. Today it is the home of the one of the world’s largest horticultural shows. Up to 150 specialist nurseries take part.
So all you green thumbed online bingo games players out there, if you fancy some pretty flowers to put beside your gaming computer, go to Crown Bingo and start playing bingo online.

We all know online bingo is growing as an industry, just like the rest of the online gaming industry - and to prove it Clarion Gaming has revealed that the interactive area at next year’s International Casino Exhibition (ICEi) will include 40% more room to meet demand from remote gaming companies.
The show, scheduled for between 27–29 January, 2009, at the Earls Court Exhibition Centre in London is a major gaming industry event which saw 69 exhibitors from twenty different jurisdictions take part in 2008.
Anthony Medica, Clarion Gaming’s Sales Executive responsible for ICEi, commented: “2008 was a record-breaking year on a number of fronts. The final attendance figures confirmed that 2 861 unique i-gaming professionals drawn from 68 jurisdictions made the journey to London, a year-on-year increase of 21.2 percent. These factors contributed massively to generating what was a universally positive response from all of our various stakeholders.”
He further added: “The international remote gaming community continues to see ICEi as its exhibition of preference and demand for the additional space is strong with all indicators pointing to there being another great show in 2009.”
Online bingo games are expected to be one of the growth success stories for the rest of 2008, so watch out for a large bingo online presence when this event roles round next year.

In the week that was in online bingo industry news we’ve seen a man from Notts crowned Euro Bingo Champion, former Foxy Bingo front celeb Katie Price vindicated as a caring parent and land casino unions decide they are going to target online gambling as a threat to their existence.
We have also seen how the failing land bingo industry has welcomed UK government efforts to allow more gambling machines per bingo hall in an attempt to resuscitate land bingo profits.
However, my favourite part of the week was reading a Bloomberg article that identifies online bingo games as one of the better bets for growth in the coming year. Here at Bingo Street we’ve been saying this for ages. With online bingo halls like Wink Bingo and All Bingo Club continuing to set the bar higher for bingo online excitement, I think it’s a fair call to say “Bingo’s future is online!”
So remember, when you play bingo online, your taking part in one of the fastest growing sectors in online gaming - which means the prizes and the action are only going to get better. And the best place to find out just how much better it’s going to be to play online bingo is Bingo Street!

As online bingo continues to expand and pick up where traditional land bingo is leaving off, we are more likely to see more player-friendly deals being offered by online bingo halls like the one recently put out by Gala Bingo and the Nectar Card loyalty scheme.
The fact that Nectar Card seems happy to engage with the bingo online industry is yet more proof that people who play bingo online can expect even more benefits to come their way in the future as this growing game continues its march forward.
And at Bingo Street, we’ll continue to scour free online bingo to make sure you know which online bingo halls are pushing the envelope in providing you, the player, with better and better deals. Today, why don’t you pop over to Wink Bingo and see what they’ve got on offer this July – you won’t be disappointed!
