Most of the news on Bingo Street today has come from the far north in Sweden where online games developer Boss Media has reported less than satisfactory third quarter results while Swedish politicians are having second thoughts about their state-run gambling monopoly.

While it might be too premature to break out the champagne, news that the ruling Moderate party in Sweden may privatize the country’s gambling monopoly sends out a message that things may be changing for the better there.  Online bingo games operators within the EU are currently restricted from accessing the Swedish market, but this may change and we could be welcoming Swedish online bingo players into our online bingo halls sooner than later.

There is no doubt that the pressure being brought to bare by the European Commission over the issue of freeing up online gaming markets is a significant factor in the change of heart being reported in Sweden.  Hopefully this will see Sweden follow England and Italy in leveling the playing field regards online gambling, to the betterment of all.

As mentioned above, Swedish company Boss Media has not had the best third quarter this year, but on a more positive note, it’s interesting to note that their revenues from the online bingo sector are showing excellent signs of being a major winner for the software developer.  Should the Swedish market significantly free up in the next while due to the privatizing of Svenska Spel, I believe this would be a chance for Boss Media to showcase its free online bingo products to a larger customer base – let’s wait and see.
