One of the problems with modern day bingo is that it isn’t nearly as fun as it used to be. For those people who were lucky enough to play bingo back when it was still fresh, there were some cool traditions that made the game a lot more attractive than it otherwise might have been. Back then, playing bingo was an event and it was a prime form of entertaniment. So what were these bingo traditions that were so prevalent during that time? One of them was the tradition of having different calling nicknames for the numbers on your card. These days, bingo is pretty boring because these nicknames have gone by the wayside.

If you played bingo back then, you would know that Kelly’s Eye represented the number one. Tony’s Den was 10. There are lots of really cool and really interesting bingo calling names out there and when you have a look over the list, you can see why so many people were fascinated with this part of the game. It really kept things interesting and it kept the game new to many folks. These days, it is all about efficiency in the game of bingo, so the names have been eliminated for the most part.

So why today would you hear a bingo caller say “seventeen” instead of “Dancing Queen”? It all comes down to the fact that the bingo games of today are trying to go as quickly as they possibly can. Players demand more games and they want things to run smoothly. With the old names, there was much more fun, but players did not get to play nearly as much as they do in today’s game. It is just one of the sacrifices that has had to come about as modern bingo has taken over for the traditional bingo that players are used to.

All in all, bingo is changing for the better, though it is sad to see some of the traditions fall by the wayside. With more technology and more games taking over bingo, players are now able to win more prizes and have a lot more fun playing the game in the conveinence of their own home. Still, it is sad to know that soon, there will be no chance of hearing “Goodbye Teens” instead of hearing the caller simply say “nineteen”. Bingo is changing and some things just aren’t going to last.
