An interesting story out of Canada should illustrate to the UK online bingo community that we should not take for granted the current benign environment that allows us to enjoy our favourite online game.

If it had not been for the alertness of a Canadian politician, a recent Canadian government bill would have been passed with a dangerous clause that would have made online gambling illegal in Canada.

So, could the same thing happen in the UK?

Anything is possible, but the moral of the story is that we all need to keep close tabs on any developments that may affect our current near-perfect state of free online bingo games.  It’s up to us to make sure the thin end of the anti-online gambling wedge does not sneak in on our current regulated online gambling industry.

Speaking of unwanted government action against online bingo, I’ve not yet seen any news from the WTO regards the compensation claims being made by the European Union against the US over its UIGEA law.  When I hear I’ll let you know as soon as possible.
