Nick Jenkins, the owner/operator of Betcha.com, a P2P betting site operating out of Seattle in the US, has been ordered back to jail on bail of $50 000 for "intent to flee" due to a blog entry he made while out of jail before returning for a hearing. Mr Jenkins is being prosecuted by Washington State officials for supposedly operating an illegal betting site and was ordered to shut down all activities. A small bet was subsequently placed through Betcha.com and this precipitated his arrest. The judge at his hearing has cited a part of his latest blog entry as evidence of intent to flee. The passage in question says: "Next step is an extradition hearing on Monday. If we win, I guess we don't go to Louisiana on Tuesday. The warrant will remain intact, however, so travelling for the three of us will be difficult to impossible. If I ever get picked up for speeding in Oregon, for example, I'll go through the same thing all over again." An extradition hearing to decide on whether Jenkins will face charges in Louisiana relating to the site is set for September 5. Industry observers, including online bingo hall operators and players of bingo online, will be watching developments in this US case due to its implications on peer-to-peer networks being used in online gambling.
