IGREA bill signs up another sponsor - Online Bingo News

September 28, 2007

Reports from the US concerning the fight to overturn the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act (UIGEA) say Rep. William Delahunt is the latest to sign up to Congressman Barney Frank's Internet Gambling Regulation and Enforcement Act.

Online bingo industry observers and free online bingo games operators who have been shut out of the US market due to UIGEA will remember that Frank’s new bill seeks to regulate US online gambling as a counter to UIGEA.

Congressman Frank has been trying to muster support for his bill over the last few months but support has been slow coming.  The Frank Bill is sitting in the House Energy Subcommittee on Commerce, Trade and Consumer Protection where it awaits further action.

Various attempts are being made in the US to overturn UIGEA which would see foreign online gaming operators, including online bingo hall operators, regain entry into the lucrative US market.  Currently, UIGEA prohibits financial transactions between US customers and foreign online gaming businesses.
