Bwin still positive over European online gambling future - Online Bingo News

November 19, 2007

Bwin, the Austrian online gaming company that took a 15% hit in its stock value last week on concerns over its posting a net loss as part of its third quarter results has reiterated its belief that European markets will continue to be liberalized over the long term.

Bwin executive Norbet Teufelberger,in an interview reported by ReviewedCasinos.com has said his company are confident European Union nations with gambling monopolies will continue to liberalize their markets to allow for the entry of commercial operators.

"There are many signals," says Teufelberger in the report. "Who would have thought six months ago that France would move politically? There is movement now.

"We hope that we will have more clarity in a few months. There won't be a solution yet, but I think one can have a feeling for the direction this is going to take," he added.

There is a growing call amongst online gaming operators, including online bingo games operators and online bingo halls for European markets to bring to an end the dominance of state-run monopolies.  The sentiment is shared by the powerful European Commission which has been targeting countries such as France and Greece to relax regulations governing their online gaming industries.

"There won't be a European Union-wide solution (in spring), but in individual countries," Teufelberger said. "The UK already has a solution. Our goal is to find one in one or several major countries. If that's going to happen, there will be a landslide."

Online bingo already enjoys widespread support as an industry in the UK’s well regulated online gaming industry.  Bwin’s views on the rest of Europe will come as welcome news for people who play bingo online as well as those who operate free online bingo games.
