Clarion Gaming is reporting that Rank Group has suffered a 16% drop in its land-based Mecca Bingo business revenue when compared to the same time last year. The drop is considered the result of a recently implemented smoking ban in the UK and a double tax on land bingo games. In response, Rank has erected smoking shelters in 80 clubs in an effort to keep its smoking customers. According to Rank’s statement on its financial situation, it has provided a summary of its future strategy in dealing with the decline: - Programme of disposals and restructuring completeV
- Vigorous action to combat external headwinds
- Aggressive cost cutting actions taken, capital expenditure deferred, dividend cancelled
- Revenue growth through delivery of improved customer experience and value
