A reason for the US Trade Representative’s postponement of a scheduled meeting with the EU trade officials to discuss possible compensation for US online gambling policy is still not forthcoming.
European online bingo games operators and other online gaming companies are hoping the EU will secure compensation for the US’ UIGEA legislation that resulted in huge losses due to the closing to non-US companies of the US market.
US Trade Representative Susan Schwab postponed key EU meetings dealing with a Remote Gambling Association complaint that accuses the US of protectionist practices in violation of its WTO obligations. It’s expected issues with a similar complaint by Antigua and Barbuda and the Doha trade arguments have contributed to the USTR having to postpone.
