As reported yesterday on CQPolitics.com the Republican party in the United States have apparently removed online gambling prohibition from its upcoming platform., the full document is due to be released next week.
Although most of the stipulations in the UIGEA will apparently be dropped, it's possible that some will remain. However this is still a huge victory for online gambling and online bingo fans in the USA, who have been legally restricted from playing their favourite online games since the UIGEA was signed by President Bush in October 2006. Many casino, poker and bingo players have formed alliances campaigning against the unpopular bill.
The Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act wreaked worldwide havoc in the industry and many companies were forced to close their US facing businesess and suffered great losses as a result. Many legally registered electronic payment firms including NETeller were fined millions of dollars for accepting wagers from US players.
In spite of the UIGEA which virtually closed the online payment options for US players, many Americans have found ways to circumvent the online gambling prohibition, and continue to play online bingo and online casino games with sites that still accept players from the US.
