Good news from Google for online bingo and casino operators in the UK - the search engine of choice for many internet users has decided to lift its self-imposed ban on gambling advertisments in Britain. The about-turn on policy comes after a four year worldwide ban from Google's Adword feature for online gambling advertisments. Google decided to play safe when the US Congress turned nasty on internet gambling, and gambling related adwords were no longer accepted. The reason for this sudden change of policy is unclear, however it's reasonable to presume that loss of potential revenue is behind the move. Google commented that it has been reviewing its advertising policy for gambling, "to ensure it is as consistent as possible with local business practices." Online bingo sites will doubtless jump at the new advertising opportunity on Google, especially since marketing budgets for bingo online operations have never been higher, many bingo companies such as Wink Bingo also advertising on television. Market research figures show that online gambling operators including bingo, casino, lottery and bookmakers are currently the third largest advertisers online.
