In amazing scenes of unprecedented voting turnout, the people of America voted for the first black President of the USA, Barack Obama, who swept to victory in a landslide.
The 47 year old junior senator from Illinois was barely known two years ago, but Barack Obama has spectacularly scooped the political jackpot landing him the most powerful job in the world.
With the help of a brilliant internet fundraising campaign devised by the founder of Facebook, donations of more than $650 million poured in from Obama supporters - more than the combined funding of both presidential contenders in the 2004 election.
With the financial backing of his powerful fundraising campaign, Obama's personal appeal as a candidate and his superb speeches have broadcasted his message simply and clearly, the time has come for change.
So what does this mean for the world of online bingo, online casinos and poker? John McCain had been favoured by the industry as being more sympathetic to the cause, however there is hope that Obama's victory signifies a more sensible approach to the online gambling regulation issue in the USA.
International analysts Merril Lynch said that the victory of Obama could be the start of more open markets in the USA.
"We think it could ultimately pave the way for online gambing regulation rather than prohibition. There have been separate acts to legalise internet gambling as well as those that particularly target poker and other games of skill. We think that with a Democrat president and Democrat-dominated Congress, such legislation would likely have a greater chance of being passed through."
So a message of hope for the world, and also for our online bingo buddies and neighbours across the Atlantic, we wish you the freedom to enjoy your game of bingo online wherever you are.
