Online micro-blogging and social networking site Twitter has just launched its first online gaming application. TwitterINGO is a variation of the popular game of bingo and has been developed by Definition 6, an interactive marketing agency based in Atlanta, USA.
TwitterINGO is a desktop application that is inspired by bingo. Instead of numbers being called, there is a pool of key words that are used. Players join in the game and are given a set of 25 key words. The board gets updated with key words matched from alerts or ‘tweets’ posted by people followed on Twitter by the players. As with regular bingo games, players wait for 5 keywords to be matched to win. Lines across, down and diagonal are allowed, so any 5 keywords in a line wins.
The winner gets a badge saying “I Won TwitterINGO” which can be displayed on other websites like Facebook or can be displayed on Twitter itself. TwitterINGO plays just once a week now on Tuesdays at 3pm, Eastern Time, USA.
“TwitterINGO promotes social gaming and tests the collective knowledge of current industry trends and events discussed by the people you follow,” said Michael Kogon, CEO and founder of Definition 6. “This application is an ideal way to extend the relevancy of Twitter in a fun and engaging way, and it helps users see if the people they are following are talking about things that are really relevant.”
“Definition 6 looks forward to providing all Twitter fans and users with another engaging way to enjoy the micro-blogging site and to interact with their social networking community,”
Definition 6 will also put up a display board where the best players and users who contribute the most to the winning boards. This will be available on the TwitterINGO homepage.
This variation of the classic bingo game using key words instead of the traditional numbers is quite unique. It remains to be seen just how popular TwitterINGO ultimately becomes among Twitter users.
