Gala Bingo employees undertook the task of scaling Mount Everest and once on top, sat down to play a highly civilised game of bingo, thereby setting a new world record for the ‘Highest Ever Game of Bingo” all in the name of charity.
Gala Bingo employees participated in the trek in order to raise money for Sue Ryder Care which is the charity that Gala Bingo support and have set the world record for the highest game over bingo ever played.
25 trusty Gala Bingo staff participated in the mountain climbing expedition, climbing an amazing 17,500 ft, not an easy task. The team had to face unfavourable weather conditions, frostbite, dehydration, altitude sickness but they faced it all, got to the top and did what they had set out to do- create a world record in the name of bingo.
Gala Bingo employee, Ross O’ Shaughnessy said: “It’s simply unbelievable to have been part of a world record setting team. Despite all the hardships we endured on the way to Everest base camp, the trek was a once in a lifetime challenge and it’s great to finally be able to say that I’ve trekked to the top of the world, set a new record for Britain’s favourite game and helped raise over £100,000 for Sue Ryder Care.
“The other trekkers at base camp simply couldn’t believe it when we started pulling out the calling cards, dabbers and bingo balls at 17,500ft for the record attempt – I’m sure they thought we had altitude sickness! But the support, camaraderie and cheers that erupted across base camp when we broke the record is a moment that I will never forget. I hope we did the world of bingo proud.”
It took the Gala Bingo employees over a year to prepare for the climb and they have raised over £100,000 for charity.
